On January 29th, President Donald Trump delivered a speech to the millions watching his first State of the Union Address of 2019. President Trump delivered an optimistic and steadfast speech, ensuring listeners that now is the best time to be an American. President Trump highlighted arguably the hottest topics in United States politics, such as low unemployment rates, small business status, stock market performance and trends, progressive tax cuts, and infrastructure advancement, to name a few. Included in the topics covered, Trump gained attention when he addressed the current status of immigration, deportation, progression towards American opportunity, and the status on the Mexico U.S. border. Minor points were addressed on ICE, as well as global coverage of struggling immigrant focused communities within the United States. Later came his points on reducing gang related violence and improving American worker & families lifestyles through stronger immigration policies. President Trump went on to mention unity and progression stating, "The United States is a compassionate nation. We are proud that we do more than any other country to help the needy, the struggling, and the underprivileged all over the world. But as President of the United States, my highest loyalty, my greatest compassion, and my constant concern is for America’s children, America’s struggling workers, and America’s forgotten communities. I want our youth to grow up to achieve great things. I want our poor to have their chance to rise." Overall, President Trump's State of the Union Address received generally positive ratings across the board, even with a survey conducted by CBS stating that the opposing party had a general approval rating of 30%, as well as a poll conducted by CNN showing that a majority of viewers found Trump's State of the Union Address to be "in the right direction". Understanding the conflicting sides of immigration enforcement and progression towards an expanding immigrant-driven economy, there is a stand still from both Democrats and Republican standing individuals. Progress is being made towards a nation that respects and understands the freedom and economic advancement that is provided by immigrants.
